In the case of your project (jilc) syncmail did not work
because you forgot to add a line in CVSROOT/checkoutlist
to tell the cvs server to keep a checked out copy of
syncmail. Without that, you enede up with a file
syncmail,v (cvs archive) but no syncmail.

When I say that the method described in the documentation
doesn't work, I'm referring to the fact that it is not a
good idea that every maintainer keeps his own copy of
syncmail in the project's CVSROOT. We will end up with
different versions and if an update is required in
Savannah, every maintainer would have to do the update.

The method we use with log_accum is that we keep a central
copy (/usr/local/bin/log_accum) that all projects will
use. If it has to be modified, the source in
http://savannah.gnu.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs/savannah/savannah/cvsadmin/
is edited, and /usr/local/bin/log_accum will be
automatically updated.

Besides, syncmail has currently a licensing problem (we
haven't found out who is the owner of the copyright and
what the copying and modification terms are).

Regarding your offer to help, there are several things you
can help us with; the best way to start is to take a look
at the current open tasks in project savannah
(http://savannah.gnu.org/pm/?group_id=11). If you find one
you can help us with, write to address@hidden
and we will give you any information and accesss you might
need. Or if you can think of something else that is not
among the current tasks, let us know. If you have the
patience to go through the lists archives
(http://savannah.gnu.org/mail/?group_id=11), you can also
find a lot of information about what needs to be done.

Hello Guillaume,
I can understand your position. I was quite upset when I
got no initial replies.

Thanks villate,
I have been able to setup using the "commitinfo"
and "log_accum" combination. I was wondering as to what is
the problem with syncmail. Is python not installed? Ah,
that cannot be since webcvs works pretty fine.
Or the "mail" program is not in its default location?

Anyway, I would be happy to volunteer to help, though at
present I don't have much experience on the other side -
the admin side of the sf / savannah.
Let me know do I need to do to be a part of the team.

Cheers,
Master Gaurav
