Only a suggestion:
You should decide who does work on which in this project. It makes no sense
if Tak works on a problem and you plan to do it also. I think, if Tak has a
solution, he should finish it.
I agree with you that the fix should be done completely in avr-tdep.c to get
it approved by the gdb team.
If Tek tells us he can't find a solution, then we have still time to take a
look.
