Normally, a Linux install should go along with out a hitch. Have you upgraded 
your
version of gcc to one that corresponds to the version used to compile swarm 1.1
and are the objective-c library files installed on your machine? Try creating 
your
own Swarm setup by modifying Makefile.conf.
