Holy cow. Didn't you see the news that the gcc in Redhat 5.1 does not
have the objc stuff in it, and you need to use egcs as the compiler instead?
on redhat 5.1, you need to put CC=egcs LIBS=-pthreads before the
configure command. There are a few more comments alex l. added in the
online faq
