So, I repeated your error.  The phenomenology appears to
be that 2.0 will read the old .swarmArchiver file just fine
(because it placed my widgets where I had told it to from
1.4).  But, pressing the save button deleted the contents
of my .swarmArchiver file completely, leaving it empty.  Ran
heatbugs on 2.0 again and got the error you cited.

My suspicion is that there's a problem with the way the
save target stores the data, not with the way Archiver writes
it or reads it.  Till I look at the source code, I won't
know anymore.  And I ain't got time just now.
