I also strongly recommend CoreJava. It is very complete, readable and full of 
examples. There is even an introduction to OOP. You can first buy the first 
volume (the fundamentales, including interface design) and complete it with the 
second volume (more advenced stuff, beans...) if you like it. 

Another very good book on OOP is the volume by one of the coauthors of 
CoreJava:

Cay, S. Horstmann, practical OO development in C++ and Java, John Wiley and 
sons.

Hacking Java (edited by Mark Wutka) is quite nice too for advanced features.But 
I don't know if they have edited a recent version (mine is for Java 1.1).
