Follow-up Comment #32, bug #42534 (project octave): Success! I downloaded the Mesa drivers binary (from http://qt-project.org/wiki/Cross-compiling-Mesa-for-Windows) and placed it into the bin directory alongside the Octave executables. Now Octave prints as it should!
