Follow-up Comment #10, bug #60818 (project octave): attached is a version of the patch that removes some unneeded assignments from 2D (no real need for ptsz and separate p1,2,etc), and adds in a similar path for 3d. the 3D tol check matches 2D calculating the volume of an equivalent right-angled tetrahedron, and tweaked a few comments. see attached.
