Well, with the latest version of both UISP and AVRDUDE now installed, the choice has somehow been made much easier by... the man page of AVRDUDE, as my (soon to be delivered...) chip (atmega32) is not listed amongst the supported chips ! But UISP does explicitly support it, according to its web page.
I'm sure it works - just try it with the expected << -p m32 >>. I've recently used it with << -p t13 >> (tiny13), which isn't listed either. ...

Sure - but I guess you have to expect that some documentation may not always be updated with all of the latest details.
