Alternatively I use often ceramic resonators with integrated capacitors which are cheap and reliable.
Per example PBRC-16.00HR from AVX (SMD version).
The precision is enough for UART but probably not for real time clock (+/- 0.5%).
I never have experimented oscillators problems with it.
