Can you suggest a viable path for making a simple solution that
does not require cooperation of webserver administrators, and
that doesn't involve making a plugin for IE?

We have to be quick for straegic reasons, I don't think anyone
will agree with that part of "quick and dirty".

Now for the part about "dirty", well if you want something that
cannot be called dirty, you'll have to come up with a suggestion
that allows us to avoid making a plugin for IE.
