Just a quick answer to two questions that have been posed in this thread: 1. Yes, cdrecord/cdrecord-PRODVD/dvdrecord can write image files of arbitrary format to the {CD,DVD}-{R,RW} drives; the images do not have to be ISO9660.
Interesting. I was just blanking a cd-rw to make such a test...!
2. Yes, you can copy DVDs with "dd"; it may even work better than using "dd" to copy CDs since DVDs do not have multiple tracks or sessions (at least not yet). (Normally, you'd want to use "readcd" from the cdrecord package to copy a CD.)
cool. Just few questions then.1) is readcd any way better than dd to read DVDs? The answer is affermative for CDs, but as you said before DVDs are not (yet) multitrack, so I think it's the same.
the next answer doesn't want to be illegal: there are many programs to read and copy movies but I want to understand:
2) if I read a *VIDEO* dvd with 'dd', I won't be able to _play_ the movie because it's encrypted with CSS. But what if I record that image on DVD-R? Is this a correct copy of the film? (I know most movies are on a 9GB DVD, but let's consider DVD-5 ones for this example)
bye, thank you as
