Yes, if the surrounding control operator is ‘and’.  The accumulating
nature (outer form) of mailing list threads might suggest that it is
‘and’, but the substance (inner form) is often ‘or’, as in this case:

The intent was originally to comment on the unsuitability of date-only
disambiguation in the face of push races, but then i realized (after
having goofed twice) that date of commit and date of authorship being
different can indeed provide a toe-grip.
