My name is Richard Schumert,
I'm interested in trying out your font engine but I'm having trouble setting it
up on my OS. I'm using FreeBSD ver. 3.4 and I am sure it uses GNU make.
However, when I try to run your make file I get the following errors:
"/usr/local/share/doc/apache/workspace/freetype2-beta8/Makefile", line 42: Need
an operator "/usr/local/share/doc/apache/workspace/freetype2-beta8/Makefile",
line 44: Need an operator
"/usr/local/share/doc/apache/workspace/freetype2-beta8/Makefile", line 57:
Missing dependency operator
"/usr/local/share/doc/apache/workspace/freetype2-beta8/Makefile", line 59: Need
an operator Error expanding embedded variable.
Background and Goal:
I'm a software engineer. I'm interested is writing a program that will render
fonts as grapics, more specifically, PNG format. I was seriously considering
using your font engine to help in this process. I mainly work as a web
developer, taking numerous file input with raw data and turning them into web
pages. One particular job I am doing is for the Valley Transportation Authority
of Santa Clara, CA. For their schedules pages, we currently list the stops
horizontally. I'm interested in displaying all stops at a slant, similar to
what one would see on a typical hard copy of bus schedules. This will require
automatically generated for each individual schedule page (there are hundreds).
My goal is therefore to be able to rotate the fonts to any angle I need. I
would be happy to discuss the possibability of using VTA as a demonstration
site to show where freetype is used, provided the improvements are purchased
once I complete this project.
