No, seriously. You don't think that GNU/Linux users, mostely computer
enthusiasts, perhaps choose it for performace/power/hackability?

I can think of plenty (GNU, Linux, Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, PHP,
Perl, Python, Ruby to name just the most obvious ones from my
profession) that are chosen on technical merits, not only cost.
