It's certainly a hack. Another hacky solution that only involves
the .ly file is to set the textheight paper variable to a value
large enough that the page number falls below the bottom of the
paper. 
We should implement a number of different page styles
(with/without page number, instrumental parts with the 
instrument name in the top left corner, ...) which could
be selected using a paper variable in the .ly file.

I don't know anything about the chords, could someone else provide
more information on how to change the size?
For the composer, the easiest solution is to do
  composer = "\\normalsize Comp Oser"
You could also change the definition globally in the file 
titledefs.tex.
