OK, I'm really determined to track this down. Could you please
download (again) http://geza.kzoo.edu/~csardi/socnet.R ?
I've modified it a bit, so it saves your input to /tmp/igraph_bug_data.Rdata

Please create a file "by hand" again, wait until R crashes, and then
send me the
/tmp/igraph_bug_data.Rdata
file.
