I use both a VM and git under Windows, but I always use git
under Windows for doc work (and I've done a lot of it :)  The
reason is it is a lot faster and integrates much better with my
usual work, which is under Windows.  I only use the VM for
development, as my usual work under Windows becomes much
slower when the VM is running.  That's not surprising as the VM
takes away 1Gb of RAM from Windows, so there's a lot more
paging going on - both real and virtual machines have to run in
quite constrained amounts of RAM.  The disk is being hammered
all the time.  So, to answer your question, doc work under Windows
works best, at least for me, and is easier to set up and use.
