1. A server to run the workflow capable of coping with the load OR a way of running on your local Taverna installation
We've got a cobbled-together taverna server, with a small number of hardwired trivial workflows (i.e. around 5 services/shims each) as the backend for UTOPIA at the moment; it's a single processor machine, and is really struggling under the load with even a 'small' number of users (i've not checked the statistics recently, but it's something in the order of a few hundred hits per day). A while ago we got to the point of having to reboot the server every 4 minutes to clean up leaks, though I believe with the latest version of taverna that's improved. Hopefully with Stian's proper server implementation these issues will go away; however I suspect though that setting up an open access taverna server is going to be fairly power hungry, and that having an easy-to-install local engine is likely to be a more realistic solution if myExperiment takes off (maybe with a 'sandbox' server for people to play with in order to get them interested in the first place?)
2. A way of entering inputs 3. A way of storing results 4. A way of presenting results5. A way of monitoring progress and handling error conditions and fail-overs.
Can we make sure that all the above have sensible programatic access too as well as through the browser?
Steve
