Yes I would still like to address this so it's not a problem.

I'd like to see if the --no-line-editing option helps. I'd also like to see if
setting the INPUTRC environment variable to /dev/null helps. Even better if
you could tell me which particular readline configuration option is doing it.

I'm using gnome-terminal on various CentOS and Debian systems and I haven't
ever seen this, I think it might be environment or readline
configuration-depdendent.
