It doesn't affect the current release.

But as for Matlab compatible coding: The point is the 'community'
package status, implying that potentially others may want to
contribute, among whom opinions on this matter may differ (e.g. some
might not want to code for Matlab). Another consideration is the
possibility of taking code over into Octave.

In the case of dataframe, however, the maintainers voice has the
largest weight, since, AFAICS, up to now it's more or less a one man
work.
