I strongly disagree.  When the quotes makes the text unreadable,
thats an indication of inadequate snipping.

If the text is comprehensible that way, the entire quote is
unnecessary.  In case the article you're replying to isn't available
to someone who reads your reply, I would however suggest keeping
the attribution and indicate that the text has been snipped, e.g.:

  N.N. wrote:
  > [snipped]

  Bla bla bla... (your reply)

That way there's no doubt who you're replying to.

"Plain" bottom posting, i.e. without snipping and "interleaving",
isn't much better than top posting.  I hate it when someone replies
with a daft one-line comment after quoting an umpteen-line article
in its entirety.  AFAIK, Pan tries to prevent you from doing that,
with a warning pop-up when more than 80% (?) is quoted content.
