Hi
I am trying to compile a recent snapshot of swarm (swarm-2002-03-09) on
solaris 8.
As a first test I tried to build is with the same software set that I
used in the succesfully build of snapshot swarm-2001-04-02 (gcc-2.95.2,
j2sdk1_3_0, tcl/tk-8.3.2, etc.). The first test failed, and the
occurence of "depmode=gcc3" on the failing line inspired me to do a
second test with gcc-3.0. This test failed too, most likely due to the
fact that our gcc-3.0 uses /usr/ccs/bin/ld as opposed to the gnu ld.
There is a patch for gcc-3.0.1 and after that you should apply to gcc
before you build it. I yesterday put a copy of it here, with these rpms
I built:
http://lark.cc.ukans.edu/~pauljohn/software/gcc-upgrades/3.0.4RH72/Marcus_objc_gcc301.patch
In case you are not reading the least, yesterday I complained on and on
that rebuiliding gcc-3.0.4 was complicated by the edition of
automake/autoconf I had in place, but eventually it did work for me.
Before I try any further I would like to ask is there exists an up to
date list of needed software for succesfully compiling swarm-2002-03-09?
Sorry, don't know about Solaris.
A second question is about the version numbering of swarm. Our users
asked me to upgrade to swarm-2.2. After some searching, all I could
find was a link to:
http://lark.cc.ukans.edu/~pauljohn/Swarm/\
Swarm-2.2x_RPMSforRH7.2/swarm-2.1.131.20020206-1.src.rpm
^^^ ^^^^
which indeed contains swarm-2.1.131.20020206.tar.gz.
That is the same as Marcus's release swarm-2002-02-06.tar.gz. I
repackage those because I need RedHat style version numbers.
I concluded that this was most likely one of the snapshots and got
myself the newest from ftp://ftp.swarm.org/pub/swarm/src/testing/.
Am I correct that this is also called swarm-2.2 or did I fail to find
the right source?
If you open up that package, read the VERSION file. The swarm-2.2
pretest snapshots, the ones I'm calling swarm-2.2x, are the ones that
have high 2.1 version numbers. Now we are on 2.1.132.
