In order to get working shared libraries (of Swarm) you will need GCC
configured to use GNU binutils. Patch GCC as indicated by Paul..
./configure --with-gnu-as --with-as=/packages/development/gcc/bin/as
--with-gnu-ld --with-ld=/packages/development/gcc/bin/ld
