Guys,
I am the founder of a similar project to yours called iRATE radio. It appears
that both your project and ours aim to solve the same problem. Namely that we
want to be able to listen to free and legal music without interference from
the RIAA. Free radio on the Internet without the need for streaming.
Clearly our projects both have a different focus. You use P2P distribution of
CC licensed music whereas we use web sites such as magnatune.com and iuma.com
to distribute music directly via regular HTTP. We avoid P2P for political
rather than technical reasons.
I'm not sure whether you were aware of the iRATE radio project when you
started your project. iRATE radio started about six months ahead of
Gnomoradio.
The reason I am sending this email is that I think it could be mutually
benefician for our projects to work together to a certain degree. Perhaps we
could aim for certain levels of protocol standardisation. Perhaps also
certain levels of interoperability, for example it may be desirable to
produce a client application which is capable of downloading music from both
iRATE radio and Gnomoradio.
Anthony
