That's exceedingly useful when the bandwidth drops to zero when the
original archive becomes unavailable for various reasons.

In fact, it's a public read-only version of your archive which anyone can
use but no-one can change.  Since you can very easily branch into your own
read-write archives, there's no particular reason to require write access
to anyone else's.  (That's a glittering generality that I'm gonna pay for,
methinks...) 

You can also mirror only a subset of your complete archive, so the source
code for your high-speed, low-drag porn server will remain hidden on your
local disk even though you are publishing your own versions of tla support
scripts to the world.

Finally the mirror that you keep for your own convenience can be used as
a backup for the primary site.  That's already saved somebody's bacon!
