        It didn't, I was wrong.  dists--release-tla--1.1--patch-5

which set the tree-version to the alias, which causes those "no patch
log for version" errors.  tla shouldn't let you do that, either, and
current versions don't, I think.

Yes, that was correct. It did let me check it out, and got the correct tree (I could build and stuff), but gave me the patch errors.
