I have one suggestion.  When importing.  I will commonly do.

  tla inventory -d -u | xargs tla add

However, this only adds directories within directories that tla knows
about.  I usually, then repeat the command, until it fails with a usage
message, because no arguments were given.

Once this is done: 'tla inventory -f -u | xargs tla add' works fine.
