I believe that would be the heaviest use of such a hook.

I would also imagine that at least one implementation of such a hook would
provide a way to edit the log file so that it could pass inspection.  A
non-existent or effectively blank log file would not pass inspection, would
it?  I guess that you can provide that edit logic as well as anyone else.

To me, the entire edit loop problem seems to fit better into the
maybe-never-to-be-written overarch layer rather than the core.  That's
about all I've got to say on the subject, so you can drive a stake into
this thread AFAIC.
