Merge commands are easily confused by mixed versions. replay VERSION will break. Update (using replay strategy) will break. star-merge may break. You'll find details in Bug Goo.

In theory, I prefer mixed versions to creating a new revision with the old name, but I can't recommend using them until there's adequate merge tool support.
