And you are sure you removed all the gpsd from your distro?  You looked
in /usr/lib, /usr/bin, /usr/sbin for left over junk?

I already did, yesterday.  You do not have PPS compiled into your gpsd.

Last night, you did this:

# gpsd -nND 6 /dev/ttyAMA0 |& fgrep PPS

You got no output.  That showed that your gpsd has no PPS compiled in.

Game over.  Fix your build.

Not only not "reaching", not getting to gpsd at all.
