Hmm.  So there's absolutely no way to get

from some kind of
emergency-stretch-tweak

?  that's a shame.

Still, my preference would be to accept the emergencystretch
solution, rather than manually inserting @* into the texinfo (or
rewording sentences).  As Janek said, editing the text to match
the formatting leads to maintainability problems.
