Same here. I can see the benefits of not depending on
another external tool, but in the case of e-mail, it
feels a bit extreme. Personally, I would like to be
able to configure monotone to use sendmail nonetheless.
If for no other reason than having _log_ _entries_ of
the e-mail being delivered.

But in addition to this, my MTA would automatically
encrypt outgoing e-mail during transmission to certain
hosts, it will re-write headers to the canonic form,
etc. All this functionality is lost when delivering via
SMTP directly.

It is a good think monotone is able to do it
autonomously, though, because not every system even has
an MTA.
