This would be nice, but it's also very nice that there's not a huge lib-dependancy tree to download and compile.

Isn't it more conventional for ./configure to use includes/libraries
it finds in $CFLAGS/$LDFLAGS/etc (or elsewhere in the system), and
have something like a '--use-included-sqlite' setting?

to the configure script? These should tell the build system
to use the respective system library, rather than the copy
shipped with monotone. So systems, which have any of these
libraries installed, would end up with smaller binaries and
shorter build times.
