Hi all,

I need some help in deciding what to do with my PC. I continuously have
problems with my hard disk, but the point is, I don't know if my hard disk is
causing the problems, or the main memory (which was defect once, replaced it,
but same problems are arising again) or probably the CPU itself.
Oh, just for the record, after these problems about 1/2 a year ago I replaced
the hdd, so it's relatively new....

The symptoms are that my hard disk is giving up (again), no booting just
stopping in the middle of the startup process, sometimes a "hangup" when
doing nothing special, both in Linux and windows xp. (after trying it again
it starts, but there comes a time that it won't start anymore... )

So I guess best thing to do is buying a whole new one instead of replacing all
kind of components over and over again. (If I have the money of course,
*sigh*)

But there are some moves in the hardware world. Serial ATA for example, the
new Pentium 4 processor (Prescott) etc. etc.

Is it worth to wait for the Prescott for example, or buying memory with CAS
222, or doesn't it matter that much?
And is a ASUS MOBO better then a MSI one?

Hopefully you can give me some ideas as I only can buy it once ;-)

I had these in mind:
processor: Prescot
hdd: Hitachi S-ATA
MoBo: ASUS or MSI with 865PE chipset
Corsair memory, 512 MB with CAS 222

Greetings,

Remon
