I use xview from time to time and I'm not getting any problems. Could
you compile ratpoison with debugging output:

./configure --enable-debug
make clean
make

then ratpoison will print out debug statements which could give an
indication of why and where its crashing. When you boot ratpoison pipe
its output to a file. I do this in my .xinitrc with this line:

/home/sabetts/src/ratpoison/src/ratpoison 1>/tmp/rplog 2>&1

Could you also give a gdb backtrace where it crashes? Let me know
(just email me personally) if you need help doing this.

That will help me track down your problem.
