  Thanks for the reply. Ken Cline suggested that I make sure that the
LD_LIBRARY_PATH was set. So, I explored and found that I had to set
the path as  LD_LIBRARYN32_PATH and not LD_LIBRARY_PATH  for IRIX.

  What message are you refering to? The message I posted?  Has  HDF5
released a new version that supports shared libraries? I installed the
one that is available at the Sante Fe needed software directory.
