Follow-up Comment #4, bug #43207 (project octave): @Philip: do you have a /usr/local/share/applications/www.octave.org-octave.desktop file? That file should be installed when you make install. The name field is "GNU Octave" which is how it shows up for me. I'm not using KDE, but my understanding is that KDE supports standard freedesktop.org paths and configurations.
