@Mike: yes indeed there's a menu entry for the CLI in the application menu -
never noted before. But then I do not often do "make install" on Linux, I
rather run dev version tru ./run-octave

I see the menu entry is only for the CLI and there is no Octave version info
either. That may also have added to my confusion.
