The reason is that portmidi is supposed to autoconnect to a users midi device. This saves a few key strokes. Maybe that is possible also with alsa and jack midi.

ps. I am unsure how to meet the dependencies of ubuntu using the openbuild system. Most of denemos dependencies are in "universe" repository and is not allowed in OBS. It suggests that I can compile against other OBS build targets but it does not seem documented.
