Stefan informed me that he already committed his changes the day
before yesterday.  (I should have checked the Change Log more
carefully.)  I looked at it briefly and I probably will have various
comments and suggestions to make.  I will take a closer look at it
later (maybe this evening).  Let us first make sure that we can get
the exact behavior we want, and then I can describe that behavior in
the manual.

With this particular reimplementation, there is no problem with
Info-hide-note-references.  I mentioned it because I was wondering
how deletion would affect it.
