I don't think that anyone is advocating getting rid of markets.

However, I think that disabling markets will lead to the code rotting,
as many things will change and no one will notice when the changes
break markets.  Hence, I think that disabling markets may well be
equivalent to getting rid of them.

I'm not arguing for or against getting rid of or keeping markets.  I'm
merely arguing that disabling the code will likely lead to the code
rotting enough that it will never be fixed.
