GCC will be in that range if it switches to changeset-based version
control.  Most developers seem to perform commits using a single CVS
command, so you can simply count the messages on the commit mailing
list for an approximation (I used May for reference).

The number will be a bit too high because some commits do result in
multiple mailing list messages.  On the other hand, some of the
commits are rather large summary changesets (the regular Ada merges,
for example).  If tla would be used universally, the total changeset
number reflected in the patch log would skyrocket.
