I at least am not dissapointed by this, it gives me a good reason
for using Linux instead :-)

Also I would not myself even think of 'fixing' problems that are
caused by the underlying platform (may it be Cygwin or Windows).
A note in the documentation should suffice.

Finally to note that a partial reason for exceeding the 255-limit
was that the encoding of special characters added to the length.
But in my case there were also native filenames that had more
than the maximum chars.

Well this message came through a ok.

Perhaps I could get our company to switch our mailserver too ;-)
