Hmm, it's less than idea because it is a string. I think a
__SWARM_MAJOR__ and __SWARM_MINOR__ (for "1.2", 1 and 2 respectively)
would be more useful.

Yes, but again it is the string, which for snapshots will be an ISO date,
e.g. 1998-04-29.
