I put this in the FAQ about a month ago:

--  The gdb distributed with RedHat 6.0 is terminally flawed. You can
either 

a)compile an updated version following instructions here at Cygnus's
sourceware CVS repository,
http://sourceware.cygnus.com/gdb/. 

or 

b) get the version with the Objective-c patches applied and untar it and
copy over the executable gdb on your system. Get that
here ftp.santafe.edu/pub/swarm/needed-software, look for a gdb version
4.16 compiled for linux.
