Hello Richard,

they aren't so different.

There is no "hold" on RPM systems. So you don't need the configure
option.

I have not been aware of the locale issue, since I could not build the
RPM. I will install a new SuSE 8.2 and 9.0 in a VMWare at the weekend
and hopefully I get a working environment.

The desktop file creation is necessary, since the path is hard coded
into the default desktop file. Another point is the use of the desktop
file property to acquire root rights.

You have got better - more detailed - build instructions and another
configure part.

Feel free to merge the SPECs. I just started on this, since I haven't
know your SPEC - I even don't use SuSE.

But why do you use "Source1: synaptic.desktop" and "patch: ..."?
You should also remove the commented and old source line.

I would also like to use the Release-Property for the system:

SuSE 8.2 Release: 1.suse82
Red Hat9 Release: 1.rh9
FedoraCore1 Release: 1.fc1

So it should be more clear which RPM should be chosen.

Sebastian
