Perhaps this adds to the abstract nature of glob strategy...

Well... Some story might, but it probably would be very bland... Happy-happy
stories are bland :)

Yes and no. The _structure_ of a campaign would not be affected. Simply, you
have to reduce yourself to creating interesting strategic and tactical
problems in order of growing complexity.
