   Is it true that not only makeinfo, but also texi2html are needed for
   compiling the documentation?

We are using the texi2html capabilities to custom the output. If you
doesnt have texi2html installed then makeinfo is selected.

The selection should be automatic with the current configure.ac. Did
it fail for you?
