But then somebody can't check out a tree and have the latest release
tree or the latest pre tree.  While configs could address that, it is
more difficult, and you still couldn't just "tla update" and get
either the latest release or latest pre as per your preference.

The name "linux" for the archive might be a clue?

I can see the point there...

Well, it seems a little silly all the bitching you're doing about it
now, since it's done and I'm *not* spending another week of tedium
just because you don't like the name.  (Feel free to do it yourself)
If there were an easy way to rename things in arch, I'd consider it.
